Guide to building a complete sound system for your electric guitar

He has taken his first steps on the journey in tone. Select a guitar amplification system, there are many things to consider. But most first question would be, "How much can I afford amp for the money?"

Then you walk into your local music store and most likely will ask the seller how much you spend, and then try to box in an amp that you might not like, but you can afford.

If possible, when you buy an amplifier, bring your own guitar and your own effects. Make a world of difference. It will be his guitar, so there will be no guessing on how it sounds when you get home, if you dig the amp in the shop, you probably were dug at home.

But before you can ask the amount to be spent, and the other important question becomes whether to purchase a tube amp or a solid state amp.

The tone between the two qualities are subjective. Many players prefer the sound of a saturated tube amp on the sound of a solid state amplifier. Many players do not care for the solid state. Some players are uncomfortable caring for a tube amp, as it would be necessary to change the tubes every so often, or charge any amplifier can damage the tubes. Most tube amplifiers built today can handle that moved in concert to concert. Whereas a well built in solid state amplifier can make most of the abuses of travel and such, to a lesser degree of probability of failure.

Both are viable ways of creating sound, but from my own personal experience with a solid state amplifier (GTD box 120), and recently purchased a tube amp (Carvin MTS 3212), I prefer the "warmth" of sound created by a tube amp. The heat that is experienced from a tube amp is the rounding of the sound waves created as the amplifier distortion. A solid state amplifier flattens sound wave as the distortion increases. A sound wave causes a rounded more natural sound than a sound wave sounds unnatural flattened most of the ear.

There is another alternative called modeling amplifier. This is a solid state amp that has preprogrammed settings to achieve different tones of the amps and player’s line 6 is the leader in this technology. I, for my part, I think you need a degree in rocket science to run an amp modeling. While modeling sounds fresh, even in solid form, and sound waves behave as if they are solid
