Fans around the world are held small Tom Petty concert
“I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty got Kathy Teston by way of personal hardships including beating cancer and heading to college at an older age.
Her adore of Tom Petty’s music with and without his band the Heartbreakers prompted her to enter a contest to host a listening party for the group’s new CD “Mojo,” to be released June 15.
Teston was selected as a single of 45 fans inside world, including Austria, United Kingdom and Iraq, to host a celebration.
“I’m just crazy about this band and I really like Tom,” Teston stated.
Teston, a practice administrator for Women’s Medical Center, mentioned she has been a fan of Tom Petty as well as the Heartbreakers for 30 years.
“I’ve constantly listened to their stuff. I’ve constantly been a fan. I have almost all his CDs and if he’s on Television I record it,” Teston said.
Teston claimed she heard concerning the contest from an e-newsletter she receives from Petty’s internet site. She wrote a proposal to host the listening celebration in Clovis and was informed Monday that she was chosen.
“Buddy Holly recorded his very first album right here, so our music roots are deep,” Teston wrote in her proposal. “Sometimes little towns are overlooked so I hope you will choose Clovis, N.M., to host a listening party.”
The celebration will probably be held 7 p.m. Monday from the Norman and Vi Petty Rock ‘n’ Roll Museum. The event is no cost and opens towards the public.
Teston mentioned the CD “Mojo” is going to be playing in half in the museum and Tom Petty’s documentary — which Teston also owns — is going to be playing on a TV from the other half.
Attendees will also be given a chance to tell stories about how Petty and his music affected their lives.
Ernie Kos, executive director on the Clovis and Curry County Chamber of Commerce, mentioned she’s excited other community members are heading out and promoting Clovis.
“We’re just very proud that Clovis is a single of 10 cities from the whole country that may be hosting this listening party,” she claimed. “And I believe it is ironic that even though there’s no relation, we’ll be having a Tom Petty listening party inside the Petty rock ‘n’ roll museum.”
Kos claimed whilst it is the chamber’s job to market the community, they can’t do it all.
“We would in no way have recognized in regards to the contest,” Kos mentioned. “It takes an entire village to promote your city and (Kathy’s) done her part.”
Kos mentioned the event will also offer a chance to see the museum during the evening, when the museum is not generally open.
Kos also said that she hopes the celebration will help the community strengthen its relationship with the band.
“Maybe he’ll (Tom Petty) be interested and wish to come here,” Kos said.
