Editing audio files to a more organic sound
I used to think that editing audio files would be too cumbersome and slow worth my time until it actually gave him a chance. Audio Editing with the right software is simple and really fun.
I use a program called Audacity, a free registry, open source and editing software can be downloaded in minutes. Audacity has all the features needed to create great audio resonance. (Look for Part I of this series of articles to learn how to download, install and installing Audacity and how to record an audio file.)
Once you have installed the program is fairly simple to record your voice. However, if you’re like me, you will find some words that always trip over each time you register. It’s nice to be able to enter the audio file, edit the parts the right not only sound and paste into a new recording of that section.
Here are some simple steps to do just that:
1. Make the recording from within Audacity using the record button in the program.
2. When recording is playing, note that when he pauses between sentences, signal monitoring shows a fairly straight line. Straight lines indicate silence. When you talk, the signal becomes larger. This will help you find where you can cut out the bad pieces and replace them with new parts of the recordings.
3. When recording is playing and you come to a sentence that does not sound right, you can use your mouse to highlight the sentence. Start with the silence before the verdict and drag the mouse over the silence at the end of the sentence.
4. After highlighting the sentence, you can press the Delete key to delete the phrase of the audio.
5. Register as a new sentence using the record button. Note that Audacity creates a new audio track to record this new sentence.
6. Highlight the new sentence by dragging the mouse.
7. From the menu bar, select Edit> Copy.
8. Then go to the original recording.
9. Place your cursor at the location where you want to paste the sentence.
10. From the menu bar, select Edit> Paste.
11. After pasting the sentence in the original track, be sure to delete the second track. If you have two tracks open to play audio in both tracks play at the same time. To delete the temporary track, press the X in the upper left corner of the audio track.
12. I like clean things up by removing some of silence. When I register, I think that sometimes there is a silence too long in the beginning and end of recording, so I cut some of these silences. Trim or remove these the same way that removes the sentence in step 3. Highlighting some of dragging silence on the part you want to delete and then press the delete key.
13. If you delete something you did not intend to eliminate, you can always go by selecting Edit> Undo. This brings back the last thing you did.
Editing audio files is much simpler than originally thought. Once you play the audio tracks and delete and paste the different parts of the track together, you will also find it quite simple and can actually be fun. That will make professional-sounding podcasts in no time.
